Second Half Surge Not Enough To Lift Gators Past Lyons

NORTON, Mass. – Pine Manor outscored Wheaton in the second half 64-60, but the late surge wasn't enough to overcome a record-setting, 37-point performance from Abbie Brickley (Sandy, Utah) as the Lyons handed the Gators the 104-96 defeat on Wednesday evening.

The loss stops Pine Manor's winning streak at five and moves the Gators to 10-7. Wheaton improves to 14-6.

The Lyons led 18-5 when Pine Manor started to work its way back into the game. Lee, the latest Gator to join the school's 1000-point club, hit three-pointers on three straight possessions to get the guests back within single-digits at 21-14.

In the second half, Pine Manor really started to heat up as it shot 22-for-33 (66.7 percent) from the field including a 70 percent clip from downtown. Jones led the way converting nine of her 13 field goal attempts and going 7-for-9 from the line.

After slowly chipping away at the lead, the Gators finally made it a two-possession game with under seven minutes remaining in the half as Lee hit a three-pointer to get the Gators within six at 82-76.

The guests would close the gap to four two minutes later when Khiyana Isaac (Roxbury, Mass.) made a layup at the 4:47 mark, but once again the hosts were ready to answer. Junior guard Rebecca Arnone (Litchfield, N.H.) hit a three-pointer to reestablish a seven-point lead on the next possession.
