Pine Manor Drops First Contest of 2015

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Junior captain Alexis Lee (Akron, Ohio) hit five three-pointers, but it wasn't enough to best Framingham State's 51.6 percent shooting from the field as the Rams handed the Gators their first loss of 2015, 81-63.

The loss drops Pine Manor to 4-2 and improves Framingham State's record to 8-2.

Lee led all Gator scores with 16 points. Jayva Johnson (West Haven, Conn.) was the only other Gator in double figures as she scored 15. Johnson also grabbed eight rebounds tying for the team lead with senior forward Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.).

The Rams spread the scoring around with five player scoring double-digits. They were led by sophomore center Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) who led all scorers with 20 points. Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) added 15, while Lauren Donahue (Attleboro, Mass.), Nicole Bostic (Easton, Mass.), and Casie Thurber (Springfield, Mass.) each contributed 12.

The visitors jumped out to the early 4-0 lead thanks to jumpers from Johnson and freshman forward Erica Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) before Framingham State scored the next six points to take the lead.

After a Johnson three made it 7-6 Gators, Pine Manor's shooting went cold as they missed their next eight shots. In that time, the Rams went on an 11-0 run, capped off by a Bostic jumper, and opened up a 10-point lead. The guests whittled the deficit down to three on two separate occasions, but were unable to pull even.

Framingham State extended the lead to 12 and went into the halftime break ahead 42-30.

The Gators came out of the locker room employing a heavy full-court press and were able to erode the Rams' lead down to one when Johnson hit a jumper around the 10-minute mark.

The two teams traded baskets to make the score 57-56 Rams before the hosts went on a 10-0 run to give themselves some breathing room. That streak was highlighted by three-pointers by Johanna Annunziata (Auburn, Mass.) and Donahue.

After a Lee three-pointer broke that streak, Framingham State replied with another 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Pine Manor will play its second game of the new year on Thursday when it travels to New London, Conn. to take on the United States Coast Guard Academy at 7 p.m.

Framingham State also plays again on Thursday as they open up Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action against Westfield State at 6 p.m.
