LEICESTER, Mass.- Pine Manor College women's volleyball won the opening set of the night but host Becker rallied to take the next three sets, earning the 3-1 (11-25, 25-11, 25-16, 25-21) victory on Monday night. The win lifts the Hawks record to 3-12, while the Gators fall to 4-11.
Pine Manor was led by Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.) and Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.) who tied for match-high honors with ten kills each. Le also collected a game-high 18 digs, while Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) totaled a match-high 23 assists.
Becker was led by Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) and Kirsti Hadzewycz (Daytona Beach, Fla.) with nine kills each. Samantha Caouette (Montague, Mass.) chipped in with seven kills, while Danielle Robbie (Bellingham, Mass.) added five. Freshman Chase Peterson (Redding, Conn.) completed five service aces, while Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) provided 16 assists.
The Gators stormed out of the gates in the first set, hitting .485 while putting down 13 kills and making only two errors to take the 25-15 victory. However, the next three sets were a different story as Becker hit .321, with no errors, to tie the match in the second set.
The Hawks continued to cruise in the third and fourth sets, completing the rally as the Gators were unable to regain their form following the first set.
Pine Manor returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Newbury at 7:00m p.m. Becker will return to the court on Wednesday, October 1 when they travel to Mount Ida at 6:00 p.m.
