Women's Volleyball Swept at Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. -- Pine Manor College women's volleyball couldn't hang on to a third set lead, falling 3-0 (13-25; 20-25; 23-25) to host Mount Ida College on Thursday evening at the Mount Ida College Athletic Center. 

Despite leading throughout much of the third set, the Gators were unable to close it out and extend the match to a fourth set. Pine Manor jumped out to leads of 9-5 and 13-9, and held a two-point lead for much of the set. With the score tied 23-23, Mount Ida's Shayna Vallauri (Morris Plains, N.J.) closed out the victory with a pair of kills.

Vallauri finsihed the night with nine kills, hitting .533 in the match. Classmate Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) put down a team-high 12 kills for the Mustangs. 

Senior Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.) and sophomore Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.) each recored four kills a piece for Pine Manor while Natasia Franklin (Windosr, Conn.), pictured, Mary Owen (Houston, Texas) and Phalogne Pierre (Boston, Mass.) each added two. 

Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) added a team-high 11 assists for the Gators, while Mann and Franklin led the defense with eight and seven kills respectively. Mann and Owen each had a pair of service aces as well.

The Gators will return to action on Saturday in New London, Conn. when they take on host Mitchell and Purchase St. in a tri-match beginning at 1:00 PM.

Mount Ida will also be back in action on Saturday, when they host Daniel Webster and Wentworth for a tri-match.
