Boston, MA- The Pine Manor women's soccer team took down local rival Wheelock College 3-1,in a non-conference match-up this evening at Winsor Field.
Pine Manor got on the board first when freshman defender Marcella Martinez deposited the only goal of the period for either team, just over thirteen minutes in.
Adams was the first to produce in the second stanza, finding the back of the net as a result of a free kick to even up the score at 54:10. Over the next eighteen minutes, Wheelock registered several promising opportunities to gain their first lead of the night, but Martinez responded back at 72:21 as she booted one into the far right side to get the Gators back up, 2-1.
Finally, freshman forward Cassie Cavender locked up what would eventually be a 3-1 final score with a long shot from the outside corner with 10:11 left in regulation.
Cavender and Martinex combined for eight shots on goal for the Gators.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dominique DelBene totaled twelve saves in the loss, while Charley Lutz earned the win, stopping six.
Pine Manor held a slight, 16-14 shot advantage, while the Wildcats led in corner kicks, 5-3.
Wheelock returns to action on Saturday, September 17 when they host conference opponent Becker College at noon. Pine Manor is set to host Nichols College on September 19 at 3:30 p.m.
