Chestnut Hill, MA- The Pine Manor Gators saw plenty of action in the first couple of minutes in their game on Tuesday with the Lyndon State Hornets as both team scored early. The Gators would shortly take over on their way to a 3-1 victory.
Cassie Cavender gave the team an early lift scoring unassisted just 2:17 seconds into the game to put the Gators up 1-0. The Hornets however stunned the Gators scoring themselves just :43 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. Sarah Gerry took a Shelby Sheridan feed and put it behind Gators keeper Jesta Gilmore.
Both teams would settle in from there and after the early fireworks played a scoreless half the rest of the way. Though the teams combined for 10 shots in the opening half, neither team would put a shot on goal again until the second half.
Cavender struck again in the 50th minute putting the Gators back on top 2-1. The Hornets kept the game within striking distance; but couldn't generate much of an attack against the Gators backline.
The Gators put an insurance goal on the board in the 86th minute when Elizabeth Anderson wrapped up the scoring on the day by slipping the ball past Johanna Sargent for the final margin of 3-1.
Gerry had all three shots on the day for the Hornets, while Cavender mustered eight shots, four of which she put on goal.
Sargent took the loss for the Hornets. Despite not making a save Gilmore earned the win in her first game of the year as keeper.
The Gators will next be in action under the lights Thursday at Winsor Field when they play at Wheelock College at 7:00pm.
