Women's Soccer Drops 4-1 decision at Vermont Tech

RANDOLPH, Vt. -- Pine Manor College women's soccer dropped a 4-1 decision on Sunday afternoon at Vermont Tech. Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) scored her team-leading third goal of the season but it wasn't even for the Gators, who fall to 0-6-0 on the season. Vermont Tech improves to 1-6-0 with the victory.

The host Knights opened the scoring early in the contest, as Gwenn Kearns took a feed from Cassie Ross and made the score 1-0 at 6:33 of the first. Ross also added an assist in the second half.

Lynch and the Gators responded quickly, tying the score just under four mintues later when the junior forward finished on a set-up from classmate Rachel Sanchez (Hyde Park, Mass.) to make the match 1-1 at 10:33.

The teams played scoreless for the remainder of the first half, taking the 1-1 tie into the break.

After halftime, it was all Vermont Tech as Ashley Sterns scored a pair of goals, first at 56:17 and then at 76:19, before Jasmine Whitman put the game out of reach with a marker at 83:27.

PMC sophomore Maria Vaughan turned away 15 Vermont Tech shots in the defeat. Vermont Tech's Laura Flint made seven saves on eight Pine Manor shots to earn the win.

The Gators will play local rival Newbury on Wednesday afternoon, serving as the visiting team at Hedley Field in a contest beginning at 3:30 PM. Vermont Tech will host Hampshire next Saturday in their next contest.
