Wheelock Runs Past Women's Soccer

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Alison DeGloria (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Kira Firenze (Hawthorne, N.J.) each recorded hat-tricks while Emma Spencer (Barre, Vt.) and Courtney Adams (Holliston, Mass.) both scored a pair of goals as visiting Wheelock College ran to 10-0 victory over Pine Manor College women's soccer on Thursday afternoon at Hedley Field.

The Wildcats improve to 1-4-0 earning their first victory of the season in a shortened 70 minute match.

The visiting Wildcats scored seven first half goals, as Spencer opened the scoring at 4:28 of the first before scoring her second goal at 10:42. Spencer's first two markers came on either side of DeGloria's first score of the game at 6:03.

Grace McGarty (Warreb, R.I.) set up both DeGloria's first goal and Spencer's second, first blasting a shot that DeGloria redirected past Pine Manor goalkeeper Maria Vaughan before playing a great ball through the Pine Manor backline to send Spencer in alone for the score.

Vaughan finished with 14 saves for the Gators, her fourth double-digit save total in five games this season. Pine Manor falls to 0-5-0 on the season following today's result.

Firenze scored her first goal of the game at 12:14, finishing on a cross from Amarelis Morales (Dorchester, Mass.) to make the score 4-0. Just over thirty seconds later DeGloria added her second of the game as the Pine Manor defense blocked a pass that came right to the sophomore forward for the finish.

DeGloria would complete her hat-trick at 27:39 of the first, stealing the ball directly following a goal kick and finishing on a breakaway.

Firenze scored back-to-back goals to open the second-half, with the second coming on a header thanks to a cross from Adams. Adams then capped off Wheelock's big day with her second goal at 52:00.

Pine Manor will host Becker College in game one of a Pine Manor soccer doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 PM. Wheelock will travel to Mass. Maritime next Tuesday at 7:00 PM for its next match.
