CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior captain Alexis Lee (Akron, Ohio) led the Gators with 18 points, including career point number 1000, as Pine Manor earned the 94-35 victory over Vermont Tech on Sunday afternoon.
Lee hit the historic basket with 5:54 left in the first half off a pass from classmate Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.). With the three-pointer, the Arkon native hit the 1000-point plateau on the button. The game was stopped so that Lee could be recognized by her coach and the institution. Lee now has 1003 career points.
Junior Khiyana Isaac (Roxbury, Mass.) also had a big game earning a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Four other Gators also registered double figures. Cadejia Matthews-Austin (Boston, Mass.) and Chaniyah Swan (Jersey City, N.J.) had 13 apiece, while Shanquanda Middleton (Savannah, Ga.) and Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) finished with 12 and 10 respectively.
The Knights were led offensively by Katie Thygesen (Barre, Vt.) as she was the only player from Vermont Tech in double figures with 10. They also got strong performances on the boards by seniors Alyssa Cassanelli (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and Paige Wells (Orleans, Vt.) who had 12 and 11 rebounds respectively.
Lee got the scoring started early as she got the first five points in her quest toward 1000 in the first minute of the game. These early points sparked a 23-4 Gator run to open the game. Pine Manor shot exceptionally well in the first half as it shot nearly 64 percent from the field.
Things continued to go the Gators' way in the second half as they extended their lead to as much as 59 and cruised to the decisive victory.
The victory pushes Pine Manor to 10-6 on the year and Vermont Tech falls to 6-15.
Pine Manor is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Wheaton for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
Vermont Tech's next trip is to Saint Joseph's (Vt.) for a conference matchup at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
