CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshman Sabrina Vail (Lowell, Mass.) hit seven three-pointers and scored a game-high 33 points as Pine Manor cruised to a 110-47 win over Bay Path on Monday evening.
With the win Pine Manor is now 3-1 and the loss drops Bay Path's record to 0-4.
Vail shot 11-for-14 from the field, including 7-for-9 from beyond the arc. Junior Alexis Lee (Akron, Ohio), freshman Shaquanda Middleton (Savannah,Ga.), and freshman Erica Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) also scored double figures. Jones once again led the team in rebounds with nine.
The offensive output from Bay Path came primarily from freshman Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.) and sophomore Briana Kujawski (Webster, Mass.) who scored 13 and 12 respectively. The two were also the Wildcats leading rebounders with six apiece.
The Gators were in control from the opening tip. They shot a stellar 60 percent from the field and 56.2 percent from downtown in the first half. That hot shooting was paired with solid defense as Pine Manor was able to come away with 15 first half steals and head into the break up 68-23.
Their hot shooting carried over to act number two as the hosts hit 16 of their 32 second-half field goal attempts (50 percent), including four-of-nine three-pointers. Cadejia Matthews-Austin (Boston,Mass.) had a big second half as she scored nine points for a new career-high.
Bay Path will start New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play after the Thanksgiving break when the Wildcats make a Dec. 2 trip to Southern Vermont for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
Pine Manor will finish its first semester schedule on Dec. 6 when it hosts Simmons at 1 p.m.
