CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – This afternoon the Pine Manor Women's Softball team split a pair of games against the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning the Gators scored two unanswered runs leading them to the 2-1 comeback victory before being defeated, 7-0 in game two. Pine Manor moves to 4-2 on the season while the Univeristy of Maine at Presque Isle goes to 11-8.
The visiting Owls struck quickly in the opening inning as Hannah Williams led off the game with a double followed by an RBI single by Katie Patenaude. Sara Packard pitched a no hitter going into the bottom of the fifth inning including five strike-outs for the visiting Owls until Ashley Huber led off the inning with a double as Natasia Franklin knocked an RBI triple into right field. Franklin was then driven in by Ashley Whiteshield's ground out to third giving her the RBI. Leading 2-1 going into the top of the sixth inning, Amber Schuman retired the next six out of seven batters completing the victory for Pine Manor as Packard took the loss.
The nightcap saw the Owls connect on a big three run second inning as Churchill brought home Packard while Jacobs advanced to third as after the RBI double, as runners were on second and third Allen grounded out to Schuman bringing in another run for the inning, Legassie grounded out as Churchill scored completing the inning. The visitors responded with another run in the third inning as Bell grounded out to Rose advancing Williams home giving them a 4-0 advantage. The Owls stuck again with another run off a Williams single. They would then score two more runs in the seventh inning giving them the 7-0 victory. In the circle, Williams comes away with the win as Schuman takes her first loss of the season. Pine Manor returns to action with a double-header on Monday April 4th as they host Fisher College with a 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM start.
