Gators Start Season With Big Win

Nashua - Host Daniel Webster scraped together three runs in both ends of a doubleheader but Pine Manor went on to sweep the Eagles by scores of 20-3 and 14-3 in a regional pair Wednesday at Eagle Field.

Julia Bodoni (Tewksbury, Mass.) was 2 for 2 for the Eagles (0-6) in the opener with a double while Stephanie Evans (Washington, Iowa) and Molly Crowley (Sandown, N.H.) each knocked in a run.

Vanessa Soto led Pine Manor (2-0) in the opener with five RBI going 2 for 2 including a two-run double in the second and scored three times. Amber Schuman added four RBI going 2 for 4 including a two-run single in the second and Chardonai Rose connected for a two-run double in the first.

The Gators, who posted 11 hits, led 2-1 after one but broke it open with a 13-run second.

Schuman picked up the victory (1-0) allowing one earned run on five hits, striking out four and walking one.


In the nightcap, the Gators struck for five in the top of the first, and led 7-3 after two but again broke it open this time with seven in the top of the fourth.

Schuman was 3 for 3 with three RBI and Rose was 2 for 3 knocking in three including a two-run single in the fourth. Soto added a pair of hits.

Ashley England (Old Town, Maine) was 2 for 3 for the Eagles while Skylar Evans (Cranston, R.I.) connected for a RBI single in the first and Evans later followed with a RBI double.

Ashley Huber picked up the win (1-0) allowing two earned runs on four hits over four innings striking out four and walking three.

The Eagles are back in action Thursday when they visit Mass. Maritime for a pair beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Gators play another double head Thursday at Pine Manor against Wheelock College at 3p.m.
