NEW LONDON, N.H. - Junior Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) had three goals and an assist to lead Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Pine Manor and become the program's leader in career points with 101.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-4-1 overall and will resume North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action this weekend with home matches against Johnson State and Lyndon. Pine Manor drops to 1-6-1 and will host Lesley on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
Sexton set up the game's first goal in the 17th minute when he found the foot of junior Jake Sykes (Laconia, N.H.) who finished home his third score of the season.
The Gators were able to find an equalizer in the 36th minute after a perfect through ball by sophomore Jose Corrales found an open Eduardo Lechuga. Lechuga beat the oncoming Colby-Sawyer keeper into the left corner of the net for his team leading third goal.
The second half was Sexton's time to shine as he recorded a hat-trick helping the Chargers secure the 4-2 victory.
Sexton's first goal came three minutes into the frame when a ball ricocheted off a defender right to him. He then gathered and blasted the ball past the diving Pine Manor keeper.
The record setting tally came at 64:33 when he dribbled the ball for several yards to create separation from the defenders and scored from a tough angle into the corner of the net.
Pine Manor got a goal back in the 78th minute when Jahvar Gayle converted a penalty kick after Colby-Sawyer was called for a foul in the box.
Sexton capped the scoring in the waning moments with his team best 10th goal of the season off a feed from junior Zach Elmore (Barre, Vt.).
Sophomore Shane Sacks (Huntington Station, N.Y.) got the win for Colby-Sawyer and made five saves. Pine Manor keeper Oscar Estrada made numerous spectacular saves to keep the Gators close to finish with 10 saves.
