Gators Even Record with Shutout of Hawks

Chestnut Hill- The Pine Manor Gators picked up their first victory of the season with a 3-0 blanking of the Becker Hawks at home on Wednesday. The Gators carried the play for much of the afternoon and finished with a decisive shot advantage (22-6).

Pine Manor opened the scoring in the 19th minute when freshman Eduardo Lechuga beat Hawks goalkeeper Devin Ramos. Lechuga was set-up by Jose Corrales and Daniel Alanis also assisted on the play. The Gators kept the pressure on and would go up 2-0 when Samuel Solano took a feed from Raudel Gomez in the 35th minute. The Gators would hold a 14-4 shot advantage at the half; but the Hawks kept within striking distance down 2-0 at the half.

The pace would slow a bit in the second half and the Hawks could never really mount an attack. The home team would add an insurance goal midway through the second half and even their record at 1-1 with a 3-0 victory.

The victory belonged to keeper Oscar Estrada; but the Gators attack and defense limited the Hawks as Estrada only needed to make two saves to earn his first shutout of the season.

Ramos made three saves for Becker in defeat. Lechuga had four of the six Gators shots on net.

The Gators are home Saturday at 3:00pm when they host Maine-Farmington.
