Gators Open Season With 3-0 Loss at Newbury

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – The freshmen duo of Alex Strafer (Auburn, MA) and Nilton DeAndrade (Boston, MA) combined for all three goals as the Nighthawks downed the Pine Manor Gators 3-0 at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.

Strafer got the Nighthawks on the board in the 4th minute on a cross from the right wing by De Andrade, the cross was flicked on by Ethan Forrest (East Bridgewater, MA), and netted by Strafer from six yards out.

A minute later, De Andrade would get his name on the goal sheet, netting a free kick cross from the right wing by Alex Davis (Gloucester, MA), putting the Nighthawks ahead 2-0.  Newbury would add another before the half to take a 3-0 lead headed to halftime.

Pine Manor came out aggressive to start the second half, but two yellow cards by Akheem Thompson resulted in Thompson's ejection from the game in the 48th minute and the Gators were forced to play the rest of the match a man down.

With 10 men, Pine Manor continued to produce pressure, resulting in three second half shots on goal, all answered by Nighthawks goalie Jarod Smith (Watertown, NY). Smith's best save came in the 64th minute on a chance by Gators forward Jose Corrales from 30 yards out. Smith guided the ball over the crossbar, keeping the clean sheet intact.

Oscar Estrada made 7 saves for the Gators.

The Gators will look first thier first victory of the season on Tuesday at 3:30pm when they host the Becker Hawks.
