OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Pine Manor College freshman midfielder Kelvin Chico (Perth Amboy, N.J.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents men's soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 9, 2015.
Chico was at the heart of the Pine Manor offense scoring all three goals in the Gators' 3-0 win over Suffolk this past Saturday, tallying the second-year mens program's second ever hat trick and securing their first ever shutout.
Scoring all three in the first half, Chico got the Gators on the board early slipping in behind the back line on excellent through ball by freshman Jacob Curran (Loxahatchee, FL) and burying his shot at the near post just 4:21 into the game.
Twelve more minutes would pass before Chico would get on the scoring sheet again at the 16:04 mark, this time thanks to a brilliant individual effort by freshman Kenardo Dwyer (Bloomfield, CT), who beat his man one-on-one and then crossed to the back post for Chico's clean finish.
Chico then capped off the scoring 26 minutes into the first half when freshman Hakeem Duncan (Miramar, FL) caught the Suffolk back line pushing too far forward and played a brilliant through ball to release Chico for a breakaway that he calmly finished.
Chico also had six shots against Rivier in the Gators' opening match 4-0 loss, and finished the week with six points and ten overall shots in the first week of his collegiate career.
