RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. -- Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Jahvar Gayle (Bloomfield, Conn.) scored two second half goals to lead Pine Manor College men's soccer to a 2-1 victory over Vermont Tech on Sunday afternoon. The win moves the Gators to 2-4-0 on the season, while Vermont Tech drops to 4-4-1.
Vermont Tech's Joaquin Currier-Cube scored the first goal of the contest at 15:18 of the first, using a feed from Ali Alzamanan to beat PMC goalkeeper Oscar Estrada (North Port, Fla.), pictured.
Following Currier-Cube's early tally, Estrada and Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, Ga.) would combine to shut-out the Knights for the remainder of the contest. The first-year goalkeepers finished the match with a combined seven saves on eight Vermont Tech shots as Douglas earned the win after taking over in relief in the second half.
In the second half, Gayle came off the bench to deliver a pair of strikes less than five minutes apart. Gayle scored at 64:54, on an assist from Ricardo Stewart, and then again at 68:26 to pull the Gators ahead 2-1.
That proved to be all that PMC would need as Douglas and the Gator defense held strong en route to the 2-1 victory.
The Gators will be back in action on Thursday afternoon, when they host local rival Newbury at 4:00 PM. Vermont Tech will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Lyndon State.
