NASHUA, N.H. – The Pine Manor College men's basketball team extended their winning streak to three games following a convincing, 110-61 victory over Rivier University, Monday evening. Led by sophomore center Ellis Reid's (Hartford, Conn.) game-high 18 points; all five starters recorded double figures for the Gators.
Pine Manor wasted little time setting the tone of the game jumping out to an 11-0 run in the opening five minutes of the contest. The 6-foot 9-inch, Reid was the dominant force in the front court registering six of the Gators first 11 points including a tip-in over Raider defenders just three minutes into the ballgame.
Sophomore guard Erick Rosario (Lynn, Mass.) added to his nation leading assist total finding Reid in the paint to cap off the opening run before Rivier finally jumped on the scoreboard. Raider senior forward connected with first year Joshua L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) on the next possession to break up the scoreless draught.
However, the basket did little to change momentum. The Gator offense kept their foot on the accelerator extending their run to 18-2 and took a 24-point, 55-31, lead into the locker room. Reid finished the first half with 12 of his 18 points while junior guard Taverick Roberson (Pittsfield, Mass.) followed up with 10 points.
When the teams returned to the court at the start of the second half, Rivier looked poised to make a comeback, ripping down a defensive board to lead to a Matt Vigars jumper. But looks can be deceiving as the Gators responded with a three-minute 7-0 to extend their lead to 19, 62-33 and they never looked back.
Roberson followed up Reid's 18-point night netting 16 points while dishing out a game-high four assists to match Rosario's four assist and reach double digits with a seven-point second half to finish with 13. Junior guard Chancie Williams (Hartford, Conn.) came off the Gator bench to net 13 points in 19 minutes while sophomore center Josh Gause (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) followed up with 11 points. Fellow junior forward Curtis Hyman (New Britain, Conn.) rounded out the Gators in double digits tallying 10 points on the night.
Pine Manor improves to 6-3 on the season while Rivier falls to 1-7. The Gators will be back in action Saturday December 10th when they host Wheaton College at 1:00 p.m.
